Oria vs Smart Sailors

Smart Sailors is a maritime maintenance and compliance platform from Marseille, sold as software with nothing to install on board. Oria is a box on the engine bus plus the platform around it. They meet in the same place, professional fleets that have outgrown a spreadsheet, and they solve different halves of the problem.

The short version

These are not really the same product. Smart Sailors is a maintenance and compliance system: work orders, certificates, crew documents, stock and purchasing, with nothing to fit on the boat. Oria is a measurement layer: a box that reads engine hours, fuel and position off the NMEA 2000 bus so the numbers arrive without anyone writing them down. If your problem is passing an inspection and running the maintenance office, buy theirs. If your problem is that nobody knows the real hours, buy ours. Several operators would be best served by both, and we will say so on a call.

Choose Smart Sailors if

  • Your problem is compliance. Certificates, class audits and inspection-ready PDF reports are a whole product for them and are not something we offer at all.
  • You need stock, parts and purchasing alongside maintenance. We have none of that.
  • You want to start on Monday with nothing fitted to any boat. No hardware, no install, and a 30-day trial without a card.
  • Your maintenance office is the centre of the operation. Their work orders, checklists, costs and signed interventions go deeper than ours.
  • You run one leisure boat and want the cheapest route to an organised maintenance log. Their Plaisance tier is 10 EUR per month, below our Personal tier at 19 EUR.
  • Your crews work offline for long stretches, or you need the interface in six languages.
  • Your engines are in a commercial engine room speaking something other than NMEA 2000. Their own CEO writes that NMEA 2000 stops where a merchant ship's engine room begins, and he is right.

Choose Oria if

  • You want the hours to arrive without anybody entering them, at the end of a shift, from memory or from a paper sheet.
  • You need to know where a boat went and for how long, not only what was done to it. Their published material describes no GPS, track or map.
  • You need zone alerts. They describe none.
  • You want fuel measured on the engine rather than sounded by hand, because you are costing jobs rather than reconciling a tank.
  • You are running boats where the outing itself is the billable unit, and the record of it has to stand up later.
  • You want the measurement layer and already have, or do not need, a full maintenance office.

These figures are not a like-for-like comparison and it would be misleading to present them as one. Their Plaisance tier at 10 EUR is cheaper than anything we sell, and it does not include tank or fuel tracking, which starts at their Premium tier. Their professional tiers are several times our per-boat price, but they bundle compliance, crew, stock and purchasing that we do not offer at any price. Compare the modules you will actually use, not the headline figures.

  • No, and it would be unfair to say so. Their Compteurs module page describes the crew updating meters from the mobile app, but their counters are stated to accept imported data as well, and their CEO has written publicly about connecting an NMEA 2000 gateway so that a counter arrives automatically. What they do not sell is the box. The practical question is who supplies the measurement, and with us it comes in the price.
